Are you ready for a tantalizing twist on the traditional Old Fashioned cocktail? This Peanut Butter Whiskey Old Fashioned is a little fruity, slightly sweet, and tempered with bitters. It’s easy to sip on a cool fall evening and best enjoyed with a friend.

Yes, I know it sounds like a crazy combination, but trust me, it works. After tasting my brother’s Maple Old Fashioned when we were out one evening, I knew that peanut butter whiskey would be absolutely delicious in an old fashioned. Never tried peanut butter whiskey? Do yourself a favor, and pick up a bottle.
Now, I know that there are cocktail purists who will argue that this isn’t truly an Old Fashioned, but rather a Whiskey Cocktail. (Read the notes below for a traditional version.) Whatever we want to call it, this Peanut Butter Old Fashioned is a delicious blend of flavors that you will enjoy savoring.
FAQs:
Bitters are made by infusing alcohol with botanical extracts such as bark, roots, and berries. Typically, they are used in small quantities (think a few dashes) to flavor different cocktails. While including bitters can be an acquired taste, they can greatly enhance the flavor profile of many cocktails. Bitterman says, “Bitters are to cocktails as salt is to food.” You can read more about bitters and their uses in the Epicurious article: What Are Bitters and How Should I Use Them?
A traditional Old Fashioned is very straight forward. Dissolve a small amount of sugar in a bit of water in the bottom of a rocks glass (or use a dash of simple syrup). Add a few dashes of bitters. Pour in a few ounces of bourbon or whiskey to the glass, and stir the ingredients. Adding ice is optional, as is a citrus twist.

I hale from the home of Skrewball, and still just enjoy it straight, or sometimes on the rocks. Going to have to branch out a bit!

I'm jealous of you. I also like it on the rocks, but I'm a bartender in my "day" job, so wanted to come up with some cocktails to introduce this fun whiskey to my clientele. If you have any suggestions for more cocktails, I'd love to hear them.
