The stars in Easy Guacamole are fresh avocados, tomatoes, onion, and cilantro. I just love making this super easy dip for parties, and my guests always rave about it.
I’ve been making variations of this Easy Guacamole Recipe for years. In fact, before I started developing recipes for Inspired Fresh Life, this was one of my most requested recipes to bring to gatherings. I’ve perfected the combination of flavors that we love, but feel free to adjust for your own taste buds.
My easy, homemade guacamole is not completely traditional, but it is definitely delicious. I like to add a bit of sour cream for a little added creaminess mixed in with those fresh chunks of avocado. It was a hit not too long ago when I made it to bring to our friends’ house for a barbecue. It lasted about twenty minutes once I brought it out poolside to snack on. Not. Even. Kidding.
The best thing about this recipe, besides the amazing fresh flavor—it’s SO quick and easy to put together. What are you waiting for? Make yourself some fresh guac to nosh on! 😊

FAQs:
Lightly press the avocado; it should slightly give. If it is extra firm, it is not ripe. If it gives too easily, it is over ripe and won’t be good. You can also test by the stem. If the stem removes easily, and is green underneath, the avocado is ripe. However, if it is brown under the stem, the avocado is over ripe. If the stem doesn’t remove easily, it is not ripe yet.
Absolutely not. I just happen to like a little extra creaminess that the sour cream adds. (You could also substitute Greek yogurt.) I’ve made it both with and without. If you omit the sour cream, simply add an extra avocado to the recipe.
Homemade guacamole is best eaten the day it is made. If stored properly, you can still eat it the next day without any worry. I’ve found the best way to store homemade guacamole is to add a little extra lime juice, then press plastic wrap over the bowl until it actually touches the guacamole to keep out any air. This helps keep the guacamole from turning brown.
How to Prepare Easy Guacamole:
First, cut the avocados in half, and carefully remove the pit with a knife. Then, scoop the avocado flesh into a medium sized bowl, and give them a light mash. You definitely want some chunks for this recipe.
Next, give the tomatoes either a fine chop or a few quick pulses in the food processor, and add them to the avocados. You will want to use a food processor, or chopper, for the onions, garlic, and cilantro as you want a very fine chop on these. Add the mixture to the avocados, and give everything a good stir.
Finally, add in sour cream, salt, pepper, cumin, and lime juice. Stir everything well, cover, and place in the fridge until ready to serve. I recommend preparing fresh guacamole 2-4 hours ahead of time.
