Chipotle Black Bean Hummus is a healthy snack, packed with flavor, and a bit of a kick from the chipotle spice. Serve it with your favorite veggies, crackers, or pita. One of Russ’s coworkers, who swears he doesn’t like hummus, even loved it.
Not only is Chipotle Black Bean Hummus incredibly yummy, it’s so easy to prepare in your food processor. Prep to finish is only about 15 minutes. Since you’re using the food processor, the veggies only require a rough chop.
Yes, I know. It’s not a traditional hummus, but it’s oh so tasty, and makes use of so many pantry staples that most of us seem to have on hand. I’m lookin’ at you chickpeas and black beans! Besides, part of the fun of cooking is adding your own twist to a traditional recipe.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a 4 days. Betcha it won’t last that long though. As with all dips, it tastes even better after the flavors have had at least an hour or two to combine.

HOW TO PREPARE CHIPOTLE BLACK BEAN HUMMUS:
Drain and rinse the beans, rough chop the cilantro, and slice the roasted peppers. Peel the garlic, and give it a quick smash with the flat side of your knife.
Add all the ingredients to the food processor except the avocado oil. Give it a few pulses to begin to combine the ingredients. While the food processor is running, drizzle in the avocado oil through the top chute. Continue blending until the hummus reaches a smooth consistency.
Store in an airtight container for up to a week in the fridge. Enjoy with your favorite veggies, crackers, or pita.

RECIPE NOTES:
- This recipe was first published on May 15, 2017, but was republished with updated photos, ingredients, and notes to make the recipe more user friendly.
- Use 1 ½ cups homemade black beans in place of the canned black beans.
- The chipotle powder gives this hummus a bit of a kick. If you don't like spicy, try substituting chili powder for the chipotle. It’s a much milder flavor.
- On the other hand, if you love spicy, feel free to add a bit more chipotle spice to the hummus.
- I find that a food processor works best for hummus. You want a smooth creamy texture, and the average kitchen blenders just don’t provide that.
- I start with about two tablespoons of oil, then continue to drizzle in a bit more as the processor is running until the desired texture is achieved.
